Bestieberry is a private fruit-bestie group chat for users 16+ who want a warm place to talk through tea, feelings, venting, and messy life moments. This Privacy Policy explains what information Bestieberry collects, how it is used, and how to contact us.

If you have questions, feedback, or a privacy request, contact us at hi@fruitbesties.com.

1. App Store data summary

Bestieberry may handle the following types of information, depending on how you use the app:

  • Account identifier: when you sign in with Apple, an anonymized account identifier derived from your Apple ID (a salted one-way hash), used to give you an account, restore your chat across your devices, meter fair-use, and protect against abuse. Bestieberry does not store your Apple email or your name.
  • User Content: chat text, selected screenshots or photos, visible text recognized from selected images, local tea summaries, and AI response context used to provide the chat experience.
  • Identifiers and Preferences: app preferences such as nickname, birthday, age context, conversation mode, locale, zodiac sign, Secret Fruit state, available fruit list, and a stable app-install identifier used for fair-use and analytics.
  • Onboarding and Product Analytics: onboarding question and answer selections, age in years, onboarding actions, feature button taps, and similar usage events used to understand where people need help and where the app experience gets confusing.
  • Support Communications: your email address, message contents, screenshots you choose to send, and app/device details included when you contact support.
  • Purchases: purchase or entitlement status if subscriptions or in-app purchases are enabled through the App Store.
  • Diagnostics: technical logs, crash reports, device or app diagnostics, IP address, request time, and error details may be processed for security and operations.

Bestieberry does not use this information for third-party advertising, does not use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not sell your chat messages, photos, or personal information.

2. Account and Sign in with Apple

Bestieberry is account-based. You sign in with Sign in with Apple, and an account is required to use the chat. We use Apple's secure sign-in so you do not create a separate username or password with us.

What we keep: our server verifies the identity token Apple provides and derives a single anonymized account identifier from it (a salted one-way hash of the Apple user identifier). We use this identifier only to give you an account, restore your chat across your devices, apply fair-use limits, and prevent abuse. We do not store your Apple email address or your name, even if Apple offers to share them. If you use Apple's private email relay, that relay address is not retained either.

Sessions: after sign-in, our server issues an opaque session token stored securely on your device so you stay signed in. Signing out (or deleting your account) invalidates that session on our server.

App verification: to confirm requests come from a genuine, untampered copy of the app, Bestieberry may use Apple's App Attest. This stores a device-specific public key on our server; it does not identify you personally.

Apple grant revocation: so we can fully disconnect your Apple sign-in when you delete your account, our server keeps a single Apple-issued refresh token associated with your account identifier, stored privately and used only to revoke the Sign in with Apple grant at deletion. It is deleted with your account.

3. Information you provide

Onboarding and preferences

The app may ask for a nickname, birthday, the kind of situation or feeling that brought you in, where you usually turn for support, what feels hard when sharing, what you are looking for, and your preferred chat mode. Your birthday is stored in the app so Bestieberry can derive age-appropriate context, birthday moments, and zodiac sign. The app sends age and zodiac sign to the AI server for tone and context, not your raw birthday.

For onboarding research and product analytics, Bestieberry may send age in years and selected answer text or answer IDs. The app does not send your nickname or raw birthday to the onboarding research table.

Chat messages and attachments

When you use the chat, you may enter text and choose one photo or screenshot at a time for the fruit group chat to read. Bestieberry uses the iOS photo picker, compresses selected images for chat, stores an app-private copy after you send the message, and may recognize visible text in the selected image on device so follow-up messages can keep context. Bestieberry does not save selected images into your public Photos library.

Bestieberry is not intended for stalking, coercion, intimate image reads, unsafe advice, or emergency support.

Support messages

If you email support, we collect the information you include in that message, such as your email address, feedback, issue details, and any screenshots you choose to send. The in-app feedback email may prefill your device model, iOS version, and app version/build to help us troubleshoot; you can edit the email before sending it.

4. Information stored on your device and in your iCloud

Bestieberry stores chat history, selected photo attachments, local tea memory, onboarding preferences, conversation mode, Secret Fruit unlock state, and app settings locally on your device. This local storage helps the app remember the conversation and keep the experience personal.

When you are signed in and iCloud is available, Bestieberry automatically backs up your chat, attachments, memory, and profile to your own private iCloud (CloudKit), so they can be restored on your other devices and after reinstalling. This backup is managed by Apple and stored in your personal iCloud account; Bestieberry's server cannot read its contents. Restore happens when you sign in on a device or when a newer backup is found at launch. You can also trigger a sync manually in Settings.

You can clear local chat data in the app settings. Deleting your account (see below) removes your local data and your Bestieberry iCloud backup when iCloud is reachable. You can also remove local app data by deleting the app from your device.

5. Information sent for AI responses

When you ask the fruit group chat to respond, the app may send the latest conversation context, your message, selected attachments for that message, recognized text from selected images, local tea summary, locale, age context, zodiac sign, conversation mode, available fruit list, and app-install identifier to the Bestieberry AI server.

Bestieberry may use third-party AI providers, including DeepSeek and OpenAI, through the Bestieberry server to process AI requests and generate responses. The server uses this information to generate a fruit group chat response, route specialist or Secret Fruit behavior, apply safety handling, and return optional context such as mood or energy signals, memory candidates, context summaries, and image briefs.

Bestieberry may also use OpenAI omni-moderation to review user-submitted text, selected images, recognized text from images, and related context for sensitive content, safety handling, abuse prevention, and policy enforcement before or during AI response generation.

Bestieberry requires third-party AI providers that receive personal information from Bestieberry to process it under privacy and security obligations that provide the same or equal protection as this Privacy Policy and applicable App Store privacy requirements.

AI provider privacy information is available from OpenAI's Privacy Policy, OpenAI's API data controls, DeepSeek's Privacy Policy, and DeepSeek's Open Platform Terms.

6. How we use information

  • To provide the Bestieberry chat experience and generate responses.
  • To keep the app age-appropriate and safer for sensitive topics.
  • To remember local chat context and app preferences on your device.
  • To apply fair-use limits, prevent abuse, and protect service reliability.
  • To respond to support, feedback, and privacy requests.
  • To maintain, debug, protect, and improve the service.

7. How information is shared

We do not sell your chat messages, photos, or personal information. We do not use your chat content or uploaded photos for advertising.

We may share information with service providers that help operate Bestieberry, including DeepSeek and OpenAI for AI processing, OpenAI omni-moderation for safety and sensitive-content review, Cloudflare for hosting and AI request routing, Supabase for the server-side account record (your anonymized account identifier, sessions, app-verification keys, and the Apple revocation token), onboarding research answers, and fair-use metering, PostHog for product analytics, Sentry for crash diagnostics, RevenueCat and Apple for subscription status, Apple for Sign in with Apple and iCloud backup, email/support tools, and other technical service providers. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to us.

We require service providers that receive personal information from Bestieberry to process that information under privacy and security obligations that provide the same or equal protection as this Privacy Policy and applicable App Store privacy requirements. We limit AI provider sharing to the information needed to generate responses, support safety checks, operate the service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot reliability issues.

OpenAI API data is governed by OpenAI's customer/API terms and data controls; OpenAI states that API data is not used to train or improve OpenAI models unless the customer opts in. DeepSeek API/open-platform processing is governed by DeepSeek's Open Platform Terms and Privacy Policy. Bestieberry links to these provider policies so you can review their current commitments and contact options.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

8. AI server and retention

The Bestieberry server is designed to process chat and image requests for the purpose of returning a response. It is not designed to permanently store your chat history, screenshots, photos, or tea memory. Your ongoing chat history and selected attachments are stored locally in the app and in your own private iCloud backup.

Our server keeps a small account record tied to your anonymized account identifier — your sessions, app-verification keys, and the Apple revocation token — for as long as your account exists. Server systems may also keep fair-use counters, request metadata, operational logs, and error information needed for abuse prevention, security, reliability, and debugging. Onboarding research and product analytics may be retained in aggregated or event form. Support emails are retained as long as needed to respond, troubleshoot, maintain records, and comply with legal obligations.

When you delete your account, your account record, sessions, app-verification keys, and Apple revocation token are deleted. We keep anonymized fair-use counters (a salted hash with usage counts only — no chat content and no personal details) so that deleting and re-creating an account cannot be used to reset free usage limits or evade abuse protections.

9. Your account and deleting it

You can sign out at any time in Settings → Account. Signing out invalidates your session on our server but keeps your data so you can sign back in and resume.

You can delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your server account record (identifier, sessions, app-verification keys, and Apple revocation token), deletes your local data on the device, deletes your Bestieberry iCloud backup when iCloud is reachable, and revokes the Sign in with Apple grant on Apple's side. After deletion, signing in again with the same Apple ID creates a brand-new, empty account. As noted above, anonymized usage counters are retained to prevent abuse.

10. Photos and permissions

Bestieberry uses Apple's photo picker so you can choose screenshots or photos to include in a chat. The app does not request full access to your Photos library. You pick each image in the system picker, and Bestieberry only receives the images you select.

Selected images may be compressed, stored in app-private storage, processed with on-device text recognition, and sent for AI processing only when you include them in a message. The app does not save a public Photos album copy of selected images.

11. Notifications and App Store features

The app may ask for notification permission so Bestieberry can send helpful reminders or bestie pings in the future. iOS controls whether notifications are allowed. Bestieberry may also use Apple-provided App Store rating prompts. These Apple features are handled through Apple's systems.

12. Purchases

Bestieberry does not collect payment card details directly. If subscriptions or in-app purchases are offered through the App Store, purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's payment and subscription systems. We may receive purchase or entitlement status needed to provide paid features.

13. Children and age limits

Bestieberry is intended for users 16 or older. Regional App Store age ratings may display differently in some countries or regions, but Bestieberry requires users to be at least 16. The app is not intended for children or for users under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided personal information to Bestieberry, contact us at hi@fruitbesties.com.

14. Your choices

  • You can choose not to add photos or screenshots.
  • You can turn off notifications in iOS Settings if you previously allowed them.
  • You can clear local chat data in the app settings.
  • You can sign out in Settings → Account, which keeps your data for next time.
  • You can delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account, which removes your server account, local data, and iCloud backup, and revokes Sign in with Apple.
  • You can contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or help with privacy questions.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Bestieberry changes. If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
